Turtle Cake

When I was a kid, my mom always let us pick out a birthday cake design from Baker's Coconut Animal Cut-Up Cakes (1959).

This book is a classic!  Mom made me a photocopy years ago, so I've passed on the tradition of making cut-up cakes to my kids.

The "Tortie the Turtle" cake is one of our favorites.  Our seven year old carefully decorated her own birthday turtle cake with mini chocolate chips.

You can make one too!  Just fill four cupcake liners half-way and bake.  Bake the rest of the cake batter in a large Pyrex bowl.  Slice two of the cupcakes into half circles and place flat side down to make the turtle feet.  Position the other two cupcakes to make the turtle neck/head.
